5 on Friday: Current Obsessions beyond JTT

June 20, 2014 by Susan 9 Comments

I’m not so sure how you operate but I often find myself getting really passionate about something {anything: hair products, songs, tv shows, a new shirt or maybe even a favorite pet…} for about ten to fifteen minutes of my life.  I will find myself absolutely obsessing over something - and then, if it doesn’t reach some internal mental rating - it magically vanishes from my day to day life.
For example, in 1995 when the song “As I Lay Me Down” came out - I seriously played it 197 times. Nonstop.  In my mom’s van.  While she was in a work conference and I was a 5th Grade, school skipping, tag along.  I’m not even kidding, I almost broke the 200 plays record.  And then one day, the song just magically disappeared.
Jonathan Taylor Thomas though… now he was one middle school obsession that stuck.  I’m not too proud to admit that, even in college, I was beyond convince there was a chance that he and I would one day cross paths and get married.  Or that eventually, I would make a killin’ off my “one day vintage” Tiger Beat posters of him.  In mint condition.

…I’m still holding out hope.
My point is that my obsessions come and go.  What is awesome today, may be awesome tomorrow or ten years down the road.  Or it may just die as quickly as the batteries of my anti-skip discman did in 1995.

So today’s five are my top five current obsessions:

Only time will tell their length of overall obsessive coolness factor.
Dierks’ “Drunk on a Plane!”
Turn up your speakers.  Even if you’re at work.  Put it on repeat.  Now start dancing!

Friday Weddings!  {And a Saturday off!}
Which is exactly where I am right now.  As a wedding planner in June, it’s rare to have a day off.  Especially a Saturday!  I’m PUMPED.  {Albeit I do have plenty of prep work to do for Sunday’s event on Saturday - the point is that I can sleep in!}  Cross your fingers and do an anti-rain dance for me though.  I have an outdoor ceremony today and an outdoor 90th birthday celebration on Sunday.

Wrist Tattoos.
But I’m not allowed to get one.  Yes, I’m thirty.  Yes, I said “I’m not allowed.”
My folks have this super lame rule that if my sister or I get a tattoo, even an itty bitty one, we will lose all of our inheritance.  I’ve asked to see their proof via their will numerous times to confirm said rule.  They’ve yet to produce it.  But with the amount of rental properties they own, dare I risk a semi-hefty inheritance years from now?  Is it worth the gamble?
Hypothetically, I skip town and get a tattoo.  What would I get, you ask?
I’m leaning towards the word breathe.  With a watercolor splatter mark.
And /slash/ Or my grandmother’s signature.
Do you have a tattoo?  Did you folks care?

Clean eating.
My Visible Whole30 Results 2014
I’m leading another group Whole30 Challenge next month!

#2catsWhole30
If you’ve never done it, it’s an amazing experience in restarting your eating habits.  For 30 days you give up dairy, grains, beans and legumes, booze, and processed/added sugars.  Basically you eat a lot of veggies, fruit, meat and fish.  It’s so much easier to do with a group, for the emotional support beyond the doors of Chipotle.  To help you out, I create a weekly meal plan with a ton of my favorite recipes.  If you’re interested in the deets or you want to get on the mailing list - hit me up!  We are starting on July 16.  This gives you enough to time celebrate the fourth of July, as well as my sister’s birthday.  The more the merrier!

Orange is the New Black.
Did I tell you that one of my friends and I took off work last Monday for an #OITNB marathon day?  We only made it through the first five episodes, as we needed time to chit-chat and time to prepare our orange foods and decor.
We had mimosas, orange soda, orange veggies to dip in semi-orange hummus, orange chocolate, orange tictacs, orange sweet potato fries, orange tomatoes, and steak.  {All the salmon was sold out.}
We even wrapped up with a couple bowls of orange sherbet.  Needless to say, my newly lactose and gluten intolerant body quickly rejected the sherbet, and put an end to our relaxing afternoon of lounging.

I’m pretty sure that whenever I pay hookie from work in the future, a theme will be mandatory.
Are you a #OITNB fan?  Have you finished binge watching season 2 yet?
That’s it today friends!  If you’re stopping by from the linkup, please leave a comment below!  I absolutely love meeting new bloggers!  Have a wonderful weekend y’all!
It’s friday!  Of course I’m linking up with April {A.Liz Adventures}, Christina {North Carolina Charm}, Darci {The Good Life}, and Natasha {Hello! Happiness} for Five on Friday!
For the love of an inheritance - I still want to get a tattoo!
Until next time…

I Believe in Secret Santa!

December 13, 2012 by Susan 6 Comments

Hey ho ladies and gents!  I am home!
I had full intentions of blogging from Switzerland.  I brought my new camera and my laptop, as well as all the plugs and cords and convertors a girl needs… then I got there and realized I needed to enjoy absolutely every possible minute with my family that I could.  So I decided that blogging would wait until I got back to America.
It was a great trip… and to be completely honest I really wish I was not home yet.  I am still suffering for a horrible case of jet lag (despite the fact that the Swiss are just a mere 6 hours ahead of us, I have basically become nocturnal…) and I miss my family terribly.
I have tons of pictures, fond memories and cheesy stories (legit swiss cheese… and bread…) to share with you.  But guys, you will just have to wait another day for that.
Why?!
Because I just got my Blogging Secret Santa gift and it left me in tears.

Gift Swap

For those of you who did not take part in this awesome exchange, here’s how it went down.  I randomly found out about a blogging secret santa on a blog.  I signed up.  I forgot about it.  I got a reminder email.  I stalked a blog.  I bought her a warm present (it was a scarf) and her daughter a Minnie Mouse calendar (not knowing they were heading to Disney for vacation!).  Then I sent the package her way.  All the while, my amazing, too-good-to-be-true Secret Santa was doing the same for me!
And let me tell you - my Secret Santa has NAILED it.  She must of scoured my blog for hours upon hours.  Or maybe she just winged it.  Either way the girl left me literally crying in my living room.
Let me preface this by saying that coming back from Switzerland, each and every time, is one of the most difficult things I ever have to do.  I leave my best friend and some of my favorite family members. I cry when the plane takes off from Zurich, and when I land in Virginia.  It has been a rollar coaster even more so this time for reasons that I cannot currently discuss… but I promise, maybe next week, I will share them with you.
Anyway - I am always sort of hesistant to do Secret Santa Exchanges because I always feel like I receive the short end of the stick when it comes to the gifts.  {One time in 3rd Grade my Secret Santa gave me a Dollar Store Barbie Doll with no hair and ugly clothes.  Secret Santa was never the same.} But to open up a present that was so incredibly perfect for me, at such a perfect time… I believe again!

Secret Santa, whomever you are… thank you.  Thank you so much.

From left to right… Toys for the Cats, Toy for the dogs, a coffee mug with hot chocolates, chai tea, nail polish of various colors, holiday wine glasses, wine trinkets, and a sweet card.  (I’m pretty sure my Secret Santa went over the $15-$20 limit…)
So let’s break this present down a bit, shall we?
Not only did she think about Chloe and the 2 Cats but she included SPARKLY tissue paper.  I LOVE anything that has to do with glitter or sparkles.  High five there Santa.
Nail polish.  I just recently decided I needed to save the salon money and start painting my nails myself.    I was literally JUST THINKING before I opened this package that I wanted to paint my nails red and green for the holiday, but I didn’t have any green paint.  Sweet!  Let’s make these colors even more awesome… Not only do I adore sparkles but I bleed purple as a graduate of James Madison University. Purple and gold will always have a special place in my heart.  This Santa TOTALLY rocked my socks off with JMU nail polish colors.
You really must think I am making this up, but I promise I wouldn’t lie about something so marvelous.  I LOVE hot chocolate with mint.  And when I am sipping on a caffeinated tea you can bet your bottom dollar that it is a chai tea.
The card.  She bought this at a farmers market.  Yes, that scores points.  But I am sitting here feeling bad about not being in Switzerland anymore and I get this card that looks like Europe and it has snow and mountains in it.  As I was driving around Virginia today I reflected on how much I missed getting snow every day while I was on vacation.  :)
Last but not least… if you have read my blog at least once, you know I love wine.  How stinkin’ cute are these holiday wine glasses and wine charms?!  I will definitely be using them next week at my party!
Okay Secret Santa… Whichever awesome blogger that you are… thank you so very much for this awesome present.  You did a spectatulr job and absolutely, positively got me into a happy mood.  You went above and beyond the call of Blogging Secret Santa Duties.
Now send me an email and tell me who you are so I can creepy stalk your blog and we can become best friends. :)
(Oh, and about Switzerland… I am thinking I will spend all of next week photo bombing y’all… but how about a sneak peek or two?

xoxo

November Cara Box Swap!

December 3, 2012 by Susan 4 Comments

Have you heard about the Cara Box Exchange yet?  Oh man… it was awesome.  I fell upon this exchange one day when I was just surfing around Blogland.  Little did I know that when I signed up for it, I would be partnered up with seriously, one of my most current favorite-blog-find-friends Whitney from The Middle of the Street.   I was pretty giddy when I saw that she was my partner.  In all the exchanges in all the bloglands… she showed up in mine. 😉
Anyway… Can I just say that she sent me the most spectacular box of wonderfulness!?  Even Chloe was PUMPED to see what was inside the box!

Okay, so first of all, let’s just clarify that she did not go along with the “Childhood” theme.  Second of all, this stuff was so awesome it didn’t matter it was not childhood toys.

Left to right…
Exhibit A.  Sexiest Man Alive People Mag!  Um… thank. you.
B.  The sweetest note telling me how I should not be so stressed out and how all of these lovelies were here to help relax.
C.  The softest, cuddliest, purple (my fave) blanket ever.
D.  Chocolate.  Giant Chocolates.  Need I say more?
E.  Balloon Animals.  Well, they aren’t animals quite yet…
F.  Bubble bath!  Heck yes.

I would like to refer back to a couple items real quick…
The Balloons!  If I was not in Switzerland right now, I would totally access my old photos to share one here.  You are never going to believe this, but I am a balloon animal ninja!  I spent a summer as an Activities Director in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  That summer my life revolved around sand castle contests, tie dye tshirts, and balloon animals.  Totally brought back some memories.
And the blanket!  Let me just say that this was the best item ever.  Not only is it purple and soft but it is the PERFECT TRAVEL BLANKET.  I strapped it to the back of my pack and took it along with me yesterday for the 8.5 hour flight to Europe.  Oh man, this blanket was soooo much nicer than the thin, crappy, gross delta booger blankets!
Thank you so much Whitney!  You rocked my socks off with this great treat!  Readers - you should head over to her blog immediately and check our what I gave her… hint hint… it included a giraffe and the most candy-land-ish bandaids a girl could find.
Interested in taking part in this swap?  Here are the details from Wifessionals.

Cara Box

Friends - let me apologize for any typos in this email blog post.  It is way past I-should’ve-been-asleep-hours-ago bed time!  Darn you Jetlag… darn you.

Ornament Swappin’

December 2, 2012 by Susan 6 Comments

Hello Ladies!  I hope this blog post finds you all in the midst of a lovely weekend.  Why I am starting this post as if it is a business email is well beyond me.  How’s this instead…
What up par-tay peps?!
I have to keep this one short and sweet as I have a 7am flight (which means I have to be at the airport no later than 6, leave my house no later than 5:30, wake up no later than 5… ) to head to Switzerland!
Today we are linking up because a TON of us awesome bloggers participated in an Ornament Swap to kick off the holiday season!
I received an awesome box of goodies from my girl Stephanie over at Icecream to Belly Rings.
Not only did she send me ornaments that were specific to my blog!  (2 Cats and Chloe!!!)
She also sent me a bunch of other holiday goodies!
Thank you thank you thank you for all of your thoughtfulness!  I loved my ornaments and all the goodies!
Head over and check out Stephanie’s blog… but you can also head over to Sybil’s blog Piece It All Together and see what I sent her in California!
In the mean time chickies… I need to get my butt in gear, pack my suitcase (which is totally full of christmas presents… I’m not sure how Santa does it!  Here’s hoping I don’t get stopped in customs!)
I will catch you on the flip side (of the ocean!)  Switzerland here I come!

Pinteresting Wednesday: Weddings

March 28, 2012 by Susan 8 Comments

Well how pinteresting is this?!  I spent, basically, my entire Sunday pinning things and watching Netflix.  For those of you who follow me on Pinterest, you know this is uncommon.  You also know I pinned approximately a million things in one day.  And you also might know that 75% of them were wedding and party related.  My neighbor asked me what I would do if he gave me $50k. (hypothetically, of course.)  I said I would throw parties!

I wish I could throw a huge party or wedding-type event every month and invite all of you to join me!  I would be such a happy girl.  In the mean time, I pin things about them instead. And link up with The Vintage Apple.

Today - for the pinteresting Wednesday link-up I am going to share party and wedding related pins from Sunday with you!  Hope you enjoy!

{source}

A popcorn bar!  Perfect for any party or wedding, or heck… my living room.  :)

{source}
Colorful straws.  I am kinda in love.  And I want to have some all of them for a party.  Or smoothies.  Or craft projects.  Or to set on my desk and stare at how pretty they all are…
 {source}
 When I get married… one day… can someone please remind me of this.  As much as I LOVE party planning, I want to enjoy the event too.  (Just as long as they let me do all the set up and decorations, I will be a happy camper bride.)

{source}

Pretty sure I need to have a party at my house this summer and offer beverages like this.  I love mason jars.  And lemonade.  And sweet tea.  :)

{source}
If only we had some redwood trees here in Virginia!  I would absolutely love to plan a wedding for someone in the woods like this.  I appreciate trees more than most… how awesome would this be for a setting?

{source}
Simple.  Sleek.  Beautiful.  Cake.  I love this one!  What do you think?

{source}
Pretty snazzy right ladies?!  Who doesn’t love a guy who dresses like this?  Sweet vest.  Hot pants.  Nice jacket.  Is this wedding fancy though?  I know it’s “White Collar” (the tv show) approved!
{source}
And just in case there is a certain guy reading my blog… These pop up all over when you are searching pinterest for wedding and event ideas!  Eventually you know I had to pin one!  :) How gorgeous is that ring ladies?  Yeah… Don’t mind if I do.
Welp.  That’s it from me today!  What do all of you lovely ladies think?  Tell me about your wedding!  Anything you would’ve done differently now?  Was there anything super fun and creative you did for your wedding?  I love event planning!  I want to hear your creative ideas!
PS.  Keep in mind I was linking up with The Vintage Apple for this post.  None of the pictures in this post belong to me.  They all belong to the sources listed below them.  Thanks to those sites for their beautiful, creative images.
