SWS - Hello Spring!

March 21, 2015 by Susan 4 Comments

Let’s all take one deep sigh of relief… Winter is over. IT’S SPRING Y’ALL! Thank you little baby Jesus, we survived the snow and nonsense that this past winter brought us. (This all being said, knowing that 2.5 hours north of me, they got hit with snow yesterday, on the first day of Spring. HA!)

Anyway - whether we have snow on the ground still or not… let’s celebrate because my calendar has told me that it is officially spring! Woo hoo! So for today’s Say What Saturday, I have asked my sponsors to tell us a little bit about what they love about the upcoming season!

2 cats & chloe // Say What Saturday // blogger opportunity

Meet my sponsors: Dagmara from Glamista Home // Jenn from What You Make It // J from A Hot Southern Mess

2 cats & chloe: it's spring // spring daffodil

Now as for me, I have to agree with J. I LOVE the bright colors and pastels. While she may be more focus on wearing them, I love decorating with them! I try to mix things up a bit in the house each season of the year. Despite the fact that our house is up for sale and we have people come check it out every other day, my easter tree is up and my mantel is in the works.

2 cats & chloe: spring daffodil

I also love the bright pops of color that show up around the yard. God really knew what he was doing when he created the beauty that is around us! I always know when Spring is here because the daffodil’s start blooming! We are definitely going to have to plant these at the new house!

Now it’s your turn! What is your favorite thing about Spring? Have a wonderful, spring-filled Saturday y’all!

If you want to be part of the 2 cats & chloe Say What Saturday Series – it’s easy! This is just one of the many perks as a sponsor of this blog. All the money the comes from your sponsorships goes right out to sponsor bigger blogs, bringing more people back here to see you, your ad, your blog post (if it comes with your sponsorship) and your personality on Saturdays! So you see, it’s a win-win for all of us!

Trickery and Cut Throat Egg Hunt

April 9, 2012 by Susan 3 Comments

First and foremost!  I hope you all had the loveliest of Easter Sundays.  Let’s take a quick second to give our thanks and praise to the big Guy and all His miracles that we celebrated yesterday.  Even if we celebrated it with some cut throat easter egg huntin’ and trickery.

Let me recap for you:

For Easter this year Michael and I went to my parents’ house for a hunt and a lunch.  My roommate and her boyfriend also joined us - the more the merrier right?!  My Auntie from Switzerland and grandmother were there too!  (Oh, and my parents and sister of course).  Did I mention the 5 dogs that were all 45 pounds or bigger?  Yep.  It was a fun afternoon.

We started with a rough and rowdy egg hunt.  I am sure the neighbors were so confused to see 8 adults (and no kids) running through the yard with plastic bags full of eggs!  There were only 45 eggs at stake.

There were three “Golden Eggs” hidden in the yard.  Luckily my mom decided to only use a half acre of their 3 acre lot for the egg hunt… otherwise we might still be out there!  I found 2 of the Golden Eggs (with the help of my Aunt because apparently I can touch an egg and still not see it… blonde?!)  You want the Golden ones because those are the only ones with the cash.  (The others all have coins.)  She used to have chocolate in them but we learned a couple years ago that chocolate melts.  And no one wants to find a plastic egg that looks like it has poo leaking out of it.  Just sayin’.

Cait and her game face!
Looks like I was caught stealing eggs or something!

Long story short - the final egg out there was the last Golden Egg.  I finally found it.  Dropped it.  And my roomie stole it.  You know that was the one with $10 in it.  There was some yelling and running.  But she got it.  Fair and square.  I am just a sore loser.  :)

Apparently my mom The Easter Bunny likes to make us hunt for things on Easter.  Next on this list was my easter basket.  My sister had already found hers in the morning.  And apparently everyone knew where my basket was.  In the coat closet.  I opened the closet it was in - again, looked right at it supposedly, and missed it.  They all gave me hints that lead me back to the closet.  At that point though, I needed to act like I wasn’t a blind idiot who cannot find a large basket when it is staring right at her.  Time to save face.

The family started looking for my easter basket…  first just glances - then actual hunting

So what would any respectable person do?  Re-hide the basket and not tell anyone but her boyfriend.  Poor guy took the blame from my whole family when they all accused him of hiding it from me!  I snuck off and hid the basket in my sister’s bedroom.  Sneaky sneaky!  At that point I had my entire family searching through the whole house looking for my basket all over again!  Suckers.  :)   Eventually I “found” the basket in Leslie’s room.  No one knew who to blame.  And because I am completely incapable of lying they eventually figured out that I punk’d them.  Happy Easter family!

First year I got a basket that I had to share with Mike… The beef jerky is not mine.
My sister’s cat wanted to join us.  Fun fact -
this black cat is actually sister to my 2 cats!

We had a great pot-luck feast.  Fish.  Pork.  Tons and tons of veggies.  Wine.  And dessert courtesy of me!

Lemon berry trifle!  Recipe to come later this week!
8 people - several helpings each.  Pretty sure everyone enjoyed it!

After the meal we enjoy the 70ish degree weather out on the back deck.  It was a nice afternoon.  And yes, I still have silly bangs.  (I will definitely be packing a ball cap for Disney on Wednesday!)

Great picture of Caitlin and Mark

Oh yeah, then we went to visit the neighbors chickens.  Despite their gross feet - I still kinda want some.

I hope you all had a terrific Easter Weekend!  Keep in mind I am leaving on Wednesday at 5am for “Spring Break” in Orlando.  I am still looking for a couple people who might be interested in Guest Posting for me while I am away.  There are not many spots left so shoot me an email if you have any interest!  2catsandchloe(at)gmail(dot)com

Chat soon lovelies!  xoxo Suz

Caterpillar Warfare.

April 5, 2012 by Susan 3 Comments

Oh the adventures in homeownership.  It never gets old.  Whether it’s a leak during a monsoon, a much needed paint job, or the dreaded annual caterpillar infestation (mentioned here)… it never gets old.  Or maybe it does.  I still gotta find that silver lining.

He looks harmless.  Like he might be sleeping.  But he’s just hiding his fangs from the camera.

Any-hoo.  It’s time for a quick story!  Ever since I was a little munchkin, I have been terrified of caterpillars.  You know those furry, wormy looking things that climb on just about anything, that could easily get lost in your hair and you’d never know?  Yep.  Them.  I hate ’em.  Just my luck, the first home I buy has a tree that annually houses millions of tiny little caterpillars.  About a month after I moved in they showed up and took over everything!  The deck.  The tree.  The fence.  The yard.  The balcony.  Then they started marching their little caterpillar feet in the house!  Thankfully they only last a month or so.

Kicker is - the darn suckers don’t even turn into pretty butterflies!

They start like this - then they work their way down the tree, onto the deck, and into my hair.

As the years have passed, I have learned to keep a lookout for these critters come March and April.  And I boy have learned how to take care of them.  With a squirt gun that shoots bug killer 40 feet.  What other options are there?

After work one day last week, while my mom was here to document the activity for great blogging of course, I decided it was time.  I needed to catch kill them before they made their precious little way down the tree.  Of course a wardrobe change was necessary.

I went from this:

To this:
(If you were a caterpillar, you’d go running for the hills wouldn’t ya?)

Chloe wanted to help, but I told her it was only safe for her inside.

The supplies.

Thankfully I have a balcony off my bedroom.  Sadly, this is really the only time I use the balcony each year.  Otherwise a ladder would be necessary - which would’ve gotten me too close to the creepy crawlers.  (Notice I have my game face on?)

Please note - chemical warfare is never recommended.  This act is only for the trained caterpillar fearing professional.

This took care of them.  For the next 24 hours dead caterpillars continued to fall like rain from the tree.  And I haven’t seen any c’pillar creeping since.

Now, don’t get me wrong.  I do not condone killing innocent animals or critters unless it is 100% necessary.  If said critters plan to invade your yard, deck, grill, home, and hair… that’s another story.

So to recap - a girl must protect her home.  But I’ve learned - Caterpillars are one thing.  This girl is pretty sure she is no where near ready to take on Zombies.  :)

I hope you have all had a safe, caterpillar free week so far!  xoxo - Suz

SWAT Teams Drive Book Mobiles!

March 20, 2012 by Susan 2 Comments

Well hello friends!  I am sorry for my absence.  Last week was one heck of a week.  And it ran into the weekend.  And now, it continues on into this week… lame-o.  I won’t bring you down with all the details of my mom in the hospital, my car still in the shop, bailing a friend out of the slammer, my neighbor’s foreclosed house going on the marketing for $20k below what I owe on my house… you know… all those details will be ignored in this post today because today is a holiday!!  Well, sorta.

Happy First Day of Spring!  Let’s just take a minute to greet her and say Helloooo Spring!  But wait, that means winter has come and gone.  Did anyone have the chance to chat with Winter?  Because he kinda let the snow-lovin side of me down this year.  I believe the temp dropped below 40 maybeeee twice.  Pathetic job Winter.  Summer better bring her A-Game.  That’s all I have to say…

So what did you do on your first day of Spring?  Sneeze because of the early pollen?  Pick some flowers for your house?  Enjoy the 75+ degree weather (in Virginia)?  I have yet to do any of that.  My day was much less spring like… more so Reality TV show like.  *Cue the theme song to Cops.*  I decided to spend my first day of Spring eating lunch with a dear client and friend in Newport News.  And then we got stuck in the midst of a tactical hostage situation.  Yep.  That’s right.  SWAT teams were involved.  Several of them actually.  And K-9s.

We were innocently eating lunch at Salsa’s Mexican Restaurant when we were surrounded by cops, ambulances, firemen, SWAT members, and media.  Apparently someone went postal in the building across the street from us!  We just kept eating our chips and salsa. Then realized they shut down all the roads! I wish I had snapped a couple shots pictures for you (pretty sure using the word shots right there was just wrong) but I wasn’t sure if it was appropriate or not.  So just use your imagination.  (If you want, you can visual a great scene from Criminal Minds or Law & Order: SVU - but it was not quite that exciting.)

{source}
My favorite quote from the event was from my hilarious friend Dana!  It went something like this:

Suz:  Dana look!!  Another SWAT bus just pulled up!!!
Dana:  Susan, that’s just the Book Mobile. {…then she does a double take!}
{source}

Apparently Dana watches different crime shows than me…  :)  Next time I see Detective Benson call the Book Mobile out to the crime scene I am going to go nuts!

All my jokes aside, it seems like this event was a slightly bigger joke.  They shut the City Center down for hours and now they aren’t even sure if there was a shooter or who the so-called hostage is… You’d think they would’ve had all that figured out before they called in the troops!

If you wish to read up a bit more about this, go to our local news channel here.

Luckily I was stuck in this ridiculousness today, because after the past five days, I have been self-diagnosed with the dreaded “Blogger Brain Block.”   So what do you want to hear from me next?  Leave a comment below with a fun (or serious) fact you are just achin’ to learn about me!  Because I know that before each and every one of you go to sleep at night you think to yourself  “MAN!  If only I knew what kind of toothpaste Susan uses!”   (It’s Crest, with whitening, and a touch of Scope… please don’t lose anymore sleep over that.)

Thanks for spending time with me today!  And Happy Spring!  xoxo
