Walmart, Buffalo, and my thoughts on humidity.

by Susan

As most of you know I spent all of last week in Colorado.   Since my mom and I had to be in Denver for work, we decided to take a couple extra days to enjoy a small town named Frisco.  It was terrific.  I fell in love with that small town as it taught me many valuable lessons….

1.  Humidity is crucial to my life, my hair, my skin, my nose, and my overall well being.  I will refrain from sharing the details, just know, I now appreciate walking out of my house and feeling like I need to take a shower again.

2.  Walmarts exist with gorgeous backdrops.  And I mean backdrops so gorgeous even Glamour Shots can’t afford them.  But for serious.  Who knew that even a Walmart could be pretty?!

3.  Speaking of Walmart, did you know you could buy oxygen and ski tickets at this super high superstore?!  Yes, I said oxygen.  And to be completely frank, I meant  Oxygen!?!  It must be so rare and hard to find at this altitude that Walmart has to take advantage of this and profit off our our need to breath.  Here on the east coast, oxygen floats around freely for anyone to enjoy.

4.  Sleigh rides are awesome.  Especially sleigh rides to dinner, when cowboys greet you with peppermint schnapps and serve you dinner.  See more about this fun event here. And if you are even in Frisco, I highly recommend this costly evening.  Worth every penny.

5.  Icycles Iciles Icicles are bigger than 5 inches in some parts of the country!  Who knew?!  We have yet to see an icicle in Virginia this year.  They are so rare here I don’t even know how to spell them.  Nor does my roommate.  It’s a really silly word actually.  I-C-I-C-L-E-S.  Silly right?

6.  No matter how dry your skin is you should never ever open up Victoria Secret’s Lovespell Body Lotion at such an altitude.  Especially when your mom is in the room.  Wearing black business pants.  This will result in a disaster.  The lotion can and will easily shoot 3 feet across the room and splatter on the innocent business clothes.  And you will laugh.  Then get yelled at.
7.  Speaking of business clothes, people don’t wear these in the mountains.  Snowboarders dress like, well snowboarders.  Skiers typically have two looks - one is more towards the fancier, rich looking side and the other look is towards the old-school 80s ski bib style.  Snowboarders have it made in the shade when it comes to comfort and warmth.  I was jealous.  Because everyone was staring at me.  Stroll around in a business suit and heels in 5 degree weather with icy sidewalks and folks will look at you like there’s a monkey sitting on your head.  I’m still not so sure about this comment from the gentlemen in the lodge:  “We decided we weren’t even going to talk to you pretty ladies, you look like you’re high maintenance wearing heels in the inn.”
And last but not least!!
8.  Buffalo exist!!  I had seen them in history books - and I am sure google image search would show me a buffalo or two.  But driving to work and seeing them on the side of the highway was pretty much the most exciting part of the work week!  Of course we stopped, and despite our business apparel, acted like tourists.  Awesome right?  (Not nearly as awesome as my mom standing on top of a rock “calling” the buffalo to come closer… pretty sure she can’t speak Buffalonian too well.)

So there ya have it.  Five days of solid work aside, I learned eight very important things that can all be summarized with this:  I belong at sea level.  Now don’t get me wrong - The Blue Ridge Mountains have NOTHING on The Rockies as far as height, beauty and buffalo go.  But my heart lies in Virginia.  A state where we have mountains with reasonable temperatures, beaches for the bums like me who want a hobby that doesn’t involve flying snow plowing down a mountain, and humidity for those who need a little volume without product.  Traveling is always awesome, but it’s good to be home.

xoxo.

This post is so funny : ) I KNOW they plan Walmarts like that on purpose to entice us innocent buyers! And buy oxygen? Why? Hilarious about the Love Spell lotion. And I’ve seen buffaloes - in Massachusetts, if you can believe it. My heart belongs in Virginia too!
