There is a terrific Kenny Chesney Christmas song that says “All I want for Christmas is a real good tan. Take me the islands, put my feet in the sand…” I had told my mom that I wanted to do a themed tree in my house this year. For those who have not seen the tree in my living room, it is a trip down memory lane. Every time I travel somewhere, while most tourists pick up a magnet or thimble or shot glass, I find an ornament. So (almost) every ornament I hang on that tree is a memory of a place I’ve been or an adventure I’ve had. I love it. Ergo, I cannot make that a pretty themed Christmas tree!
When I was a kid I wanted a tree in my room so badly that I went out and bought one. Growing up, my friends (especially Kasie) lovingly made fun of that tree, calling it the “Charlie Brown Christmas Tree” because it is skinny and the limbs are sparse. This cute, homely tree spends it’s summers in a skinny box in the attic, and it’s winters in my front kitchen windows. For the past few years it has been a JMU tree: purple and gold balls that my college roomies, the boys, and I wrote our names on, and then a few construction paper graduation caps that Christen made.
This year, as I said, I wanted to mix things up. I told my mom I wanted a lime green and hot pink themed tree. At first, it didn’t matter what was going on it, as long it was either of those bright colors. Then I started to put my thinking cap on and decided that both of those colors (along with a bright, light blue) were tropical colors! So why not have a tropical beach tree?! Check out the process and then the finished tree! Let me know what you think!
Gotta have some starfish on a tropical tree! But who wants them to be white?!
Gotta make them pretty! Time for spray paint! Due to the cold weather, I painted them inside the house, inside this box.
I used twine to turn the starfish into ornaments.
Thank goodness for the hot glue gun!
Kinda blurry, but I wanted to show you the thumbs up from my roomie! |
