Father’s Day is coming!

June 10, 2015 by Susan 1 Comment

Holy crap, it’s almost Father’s Day. Can you believe it? I mean seriously, where has the year gone?? Before you know it, it will be Christmas! I know, I know… let’s not jump the gun quite yet! Let’s just get through one holiday at a time!

Before you leave this post to go google “what day is Father’s Day 2015” (it’s June 21st, btw.) I have to share a few really great Dad’s Day gift ideas with you! My dad is far from the ‘just give him a tie’ kinda guy. I’m pretty sure I tried that gift once, which is why he now owns one single tie. My dad is more of the ‘just give me fishing lures and / or rum” kinda guy.

This year I decided to put together a gift bag full of Stanley products from Eddie Bauer that my dad can take with him fishing out on the kayak!

What adventurous guy wouldn’t love these gifts? I’m pretty positive that if these Stanley gifts do not end up in my dad’s hands soon, they will take residency in Jellybean!

For his father’s day gift I opted for the:

  • Stanley Classic Vacuum Bottle
  • Stanley Classic One Hand Vacuum Mug
  • Stanley Adventure Flask - because who doesn’t want to carry rum with them at all times?

I’m going to pair these products with some coffee for the mug, some Jack Daniels for the flask, some trail mix and some fishing lures for his day out on the ‘yaks.

Would you father like these heavy duty Stanley products? Other than a full bottle of rum (I’m moving… and have packed that cabinet already!) what else would you add to the gift basket for your dad?

Many thanks to Stanley for sponsoring this post and helping me score rockstar-daughter-points with this awesome father’s day gift!

Proverbs 31:29 — Happy Mother’s Day!

May 10, 2015 by Susan 6 Comments

So it’s Sunday - but it’s also Mother’s Day! So in addition to a Sunday Morning Scripture post, I’m going to throw a few (read photodump) pictures of my momma at ya too! We have shared many adventures, laughs and great memories.

2 cats & chloe: proverbs 31: 29 watercolor

Anyone interested in having Proverbs 31:29 as your iphone background? I am going to resize it for myself… let me know if you want it too!

Now on with the Momma’s Day show! I wanted to share a few fun pictures of my Mother today. (And yes, I am one of the few who actually call their mom “Mother!”) So happy Mother’s Day Mother!

Since most of my photo albums are packed at this point, here are a few of my favorites from Facebook:

We work well together.

29:11 Celebrations made the paper!

It’s okay to dress up like garden gnomes together.

2 cats & chloe: DIY gnome costume

We drink wine together. And occasionally party together.

bottle game

We go on adventures together. We get in over our heads together.

2 cats & chloe: vintage shasta adventure

We share friends. We share enemies.

mother daughter business ventures

We thought it would be fun to run a cafe together. Ha.

You wear my hand-me-downs.

You support my dreams. Even if you have to take the back seat.

Did I mention we drink together?

Happy Mother’s Day to my awesome Mother! And don’t worry, I saved the real embarrassing pictures for your birthday.

Easter was Golden!

April 7, 2015 by Susan 26 Comments

Ah, what an incredibly fun Easter Sunday. While I do regret that we did not get to church this past Sunday, overall, it was a beautiful, sunny, family-filled day.

My husband and I headed across the bridge first thing in the morning to help my folks get their house ready. When we arrived we realized that my mom had already been at her Easter Bunny Duties! (If you missed this past Say What Saturday, you should go back and read it so that you can fully grasp how cut-throat our family egg hunt really is…) Once the house was prepped and the table was set, I decided to die some eggs while we waited for everyone to arrive. I mean, when in Rome right?

This year I used the Paas tie-dye kit. It was really quite cool, except I would recommend to Paas that next year, you put more than two pieces of the white, tie-dying material in the box. My paper towels didn’t work quite as well - but really did leave a cool effect!

Beautiful right? 😉

Next on our Easter agenda was lunch. I’ve mentioned to y’all a few times that between my food allergies, my sister going veg, my dad not eating red meat… our family functions can be quite interesting. I always giggle at this card my mom has framed that sits on the table:

2 cats & chloe: Everyone eats different foods in our family!

Since there were so many family and close friends over, we had to divide and conquer. Here is most of us (except you cannot see my god-mother and my husband. Apparently no one taught them the “if you can’t see me, I can’t see you” rule…)

And then my sister and her boyfriend volunteered to sit at the bar… I’m pretty positive they volunteered so that Leslie could stare out the window, planning and hunting for Easter Eggs while we all chowed down… Aren’t thye cute?

Easter - Leslie and Aaron

After lunch - things got real. My mom handed out the bags and counted us down. Nine adults sprinted off the deck, swiftly through the 3 acre yard in search of 98 Easter Eggs, including 2 Golden Eggs. The Goldens are the ones with the big money. Apparently even the Easter Bunny was hit with the recession - they each only had $5 this year. ($10s and $20s in the past.) But quite frankly, it’s really about the beautiful shiny egg and the title… not the money.

adults hunt for eggs

Y’all - you would’ve thought that this was the end of the world and these were the last coins we would ever see again. While there was no pushing and shoving this year… things got pretty heated at the end when my sister and I were tied for first place with the same number of eggs, and 97 eggs were found.

Adult Easter Egg Hunt

It was like some lame sitcom. I kid you not… the 98th egg that was missing was one of the Golden Eggs. So the search continued for another 30 minutes or so. We gave my mom such a hard time because she did the hiding and could not remember where in the world that last egg was. Now, I wouldn’t have expected her to remember every random pink, yellow or green egg… but the Golden Eggs?! She should’ve known exactly where they were!

2 cats & chloe: Very serious easter egg hunt

Eventually we all gave up, clouded with defeat and haunted by the mental image of my dad chopping the Golden Egg up with the lawn mower, then shooting it across the yard. And then off went my mom. In hopes of not losing this family egg, or her mind. (Are there any Gilmore Girl fans out there who remember the episode where they used real eggs one Easter, then the whole town started to stink?) Since my mom worked as the Easter Bunny and did all the initial hiding of the eggs, we told her she couldn’t participate. Until the Golden Egg Debacle. At which point - she hunted for another 15 minutes and eventually came back with the 98th (MIA Golden) egg. She got to keep the $5. We are all still wondering if it was in her pocket the whole time…

2 cats & chloe: benjaminson family easter egg hunt

So who won the infamous Benjaminson Family Easter Egg Hunt of 2015? Well… in the end my sister pulled ahead with one more egg than me. HOWEVER! I did find the first Golden Egg, which put me over the edge in terms of money. While everyone else found mostly eggs filled with coins - I ended up with 23 eggs, equaling a whopping $12.13! #WinnerWinnerEasterDinner! Then my husband and I proceeded to take selfies with the Golden Egg.

2 cats & chloe: the golden easter egg winner 2 cats & chloe; golden egg // easter 2015 2 cats & chloe: happy blogger

All in all, it was a really great, stress-free, sunny, golden day! I wish every Sunday was full of that much love and competitiveness!

How was your Easter? Does your family have an Easter Egg Hunt? Do the adults partake?

5-ish on Friday: Snow day in HRVA!

February 27, 2015 by Susan 7 Comments

We have faced another week of snow here in Virginia. Not as much as they have had in say, Boston! But we’ve had more than our state can handle. One inch and everything shuts down for a few days: stores, schools and even the military bases! So just imagine what happens when one week we get 6 inches and followed by 10 inches the next week! Yup! I’m completely snowed in right now!

The funny thing though, I work from home and rarely leave the house on a normal day. I assumed “cabin fever” would never set in for me. Boy was I wrong! I have been having dreams about someone helicoptering me out of this place, only to whisk me away to the Florida Keys! Apparently, it’s one thing for me to choose not to leave the house… it’s another for me to not have said choice!

Rather than photo dumping all my snowy pics on you - I figured I would take advantage of “5-ish on Friday” and just share a few!

Yesterday I did a mini “Roll Call” on twitter, asking everyone to tell me about their current weather status! I’d love to do the same in the comment section below! Tell me where you are in the world and what Mother Nature is up to! Here’s to another weekend in the snow, and only three more days left of my Whole60!

Merry Christmas!

December 26, 2014 by Susan 12 Comments

I’m going to keep this post short and sweet. Personally, I hate the day after Christmas when society just pulls that holiday bandaid off without even thinking. There’s so much build up, so much planning and so much hype… then on December 26th it’s just done. The Christmas music stops playing on the radio. The made-for-tv movies switch back to lifetime baby-mamma-drama rather than holiday love stories. The cookies start getting stale and our waste lines start to grow.

I want to continue the love and joy that is Christmas just a bit longer. I hope you took today off work like I did. Let’s all just decide to make it an extended weekend. Keep your twinkle lights on and your Christmas movies playing for just a few more days.

Border Collie Christmas

Merry Christmas, from my family to yours…

Hugs and Cheers — The Geoghegans

PS. I created THE BEST Paleo Almond Butter Kiss Cookie, on a complete whim. Do you think it’s okay to blog about Christmas Cookie Recipes after Christmas? It’s an amazing recipe. You need it in your life. Especially before the whole30.
