My People Get Me: Great Gifts for 30th Birthday!

July 1, 2014 by Susan Leave a Comment

I really had no clue that my last post would stir up so much emotion in so many people.  I’m beyond thrilled that quite a few of y’all could relate and did not immediately jump the gun, thinking I was crazy.   I was writing from my heart, which doesn’t happen nearly enough.  I appreciate your comments, facebook messages, texts and phone calls to discuss it and to share your struggles.  If you missed my “What’s Hiding Behind My Selfie” Post, I highly recommend that you circle back to it and take a minute to ponder your own online presence.

Now on to today’s show!

Today, J and I are continuing our Not-So-Dirty 30 series with: Birthday Gifts!

Not So Dirty 30

Since my birthday has already passed (in this month long celebration) I figured I would give you a little glimpse at how awesome my friends and family were when it came to gifting this year!

First of all, apparently a lot of them read my blog.  I definitely racked in the gift cards!  I have a Target, HomeGoods, and TJ Maxx shopping spree in my near future!  Eeek!

There are just some things that folks need in their lives, and pink flamingos are it!

You don’t get much cuter than these!  My neighbor gave them to me, along with a bottle of wine!  Anyone who thinks it’s okay to give me pink flamingos totally gets me.  {And the hubs hasn’t kicked them to the curb yet!}  While others may think they are tacky, I personally feel like they are the perfect summer time welcome crew!

My folks “surprised me” {I may or may not have picked it out} with this hot pink garden flag holder and matching “Welcome Y’all” flag!  Again, the perfect way to greet guests at our front door.
I’m also pretty pumped that the flamingos match perfectly!
Let’s be twinsies.  You can find a similar Welcome Y’all flag here!
{I’d be lying if I told you otherwise - but I’m becoming obsessed with these little flags.  I have a couple in my back yard also.  I’m going to start changing them out per the season.  Just like my mom used to do.  Pretty sure this is a sign of aging.}

My sister, who prefaced her gift to me with “you may already have this” NAILED IT when shopping for me.  I have seriously been coveting this bag for over a year.  {Last season target had it in silver, not gold.  Gold is even better!}

Seriously.  This screams Suz.

Target Gold Sequins Bag
Due to my gluten intolerances and my pinterest wishlist, Katie gave me the most relaxing birthday cake ever! Who doesn’t love bathing in birthday cake anyway?
Vanilla Birthday Cake Bath Soap
The hubs surprised me with jewelry!  I love this fresh looking Sergio Gutierrez bracelet.  He told me that he picked one bracelet out for me at High Ho Silver and the lady asked him if I would like it.  He realized that HE liked it, so he knew I wouldn’t like it.  Instead, he picked out this one, because he didn’t like it, which meant that I would like it.
Does my husband get me or what?!

I also got some home renovation and coastal magazines, a sign that captures the absolute definition of “The South,” some fun Versona Style Jewelry, a ton of hair products {that I will review at a later date} and the best time possible on a surprise birthday party on a boat!

As we continue this series, head over to J’s blog Bless Her Heart Y’all and see what she is hoping to get for her birthday next week!  She will officially be joining me in the Not-So-Dirty 30 Club next Friday!  Which reminds me, we will be wrapping up this series with yet another awesome birthday giveaway!  Come back next week for all the deets!

My Birthday on a Boat!

June 16, 2014 by Susan 6 Comments

Yet again, let me just thank you for your patience as I scramble through June 2014.  This is busiest month my event coordinating business has experienced in the past seven years.  Seriously folks.  I need a week off to sleep.  One week off to clean my house.  And another week off to catch up on my blogging business.
(Oh and then let’s not forget time for my two other full time jobs… eek!)
Big news y’all!  Today is the last day to get yourself entered to win the first Not-So-Dirty 30 Giveaway!  (I will have all the entry options for you again at the bottom of this blog post!)
Now, since I seriously have 5.4 seconds before I need to start calling vendors, tweaking timelines and dealing with issues - I want to do a birthday recap and photo dump of my “Surprise” 30th Birthday Party from last week!  I am so blessed and thankful that my family and friends would take time out of their busy lives to spend my birthday evening with me!
It was literally a “3 Hour Tour” down the Elizabeth River in Norfolk.   {cue the music}
Just sit right back and you’ll hear a tale.
A tale of a fun-filled trip
That started from this military port
Aboard this tiny ship.

The weather started getting rough,
but the tiny ship {didn’t} get lost.
If it wasn’t for the fearless crew {i.e. my friends and family}
This birthday would’ve been lost!

So join me here each year my friends,
You’re sure to get a smile,
From a group of people who wish they were pirates,
Here at Suzie’s Birthday Memory File.
Here are a few of the “Gilligan’s Island 3 Hour Tour” meets “Pirate Party” meets “Suzie Turns 30” highlight pictures:
(many thanks to Leslie Benjaminson Photography for capturing these pictures!)

I went a little Nancy Drew on my friends and family prior to Wednesday.
Surprises kill me.  I had figured out these facts about the party:
A.  It would be something I like.
B.  I needed to dress casual.  No dresses because it my be “blustery.”
C.  The weather was an important part of the event.  As we would be inside and outside.
Blustery in Hampton Roads, in June, means two things: Boat or Beach.  So when we walked up to a boat (after the hubs insisted we needed to bring our own cooler to the “restaurant”) I wasn’t too surprised.  I was surprised to see a few unexpected faces there though!

These two gals drove 2 hours to ride on a boat with me!  Christen (on the left) even left her newborn baby for the evening!!

Meet Gilligan.  My dad.  He looks quite seaworthy if you ask me.

My mom had quite the spread.  She even had gluten free food in honor of my intolerance issues!

Even though I went all 150-questions on him as we drove an hour to Norfolk, the Hubs was nice enough not to kick me out of his car!  Honestly though, thank God he didn’t blind-fold me!

Reading labels.  Hunting for wheat.

Kim, sitting in one of the coolest folding chairs ever.

My not-a-twin Sister and I snapping an “ussie” (apparently this is a new term I was unaware of…)

Pirate faces.

Another Ussie.  Because all the cool kids are doing it.

Summer in a Cup.  On a boat.  In the rain.
It was terrific.

My JMU roomies and two of the hubbies.

Sans hubbies.  I heart these girls so much.

Our second family picture since our wedding.  I’m not surprised that I’m the only one wearing color.  Hello black and grey color scheme.

More pirate faces.  (Hard to believe we’ve been friends for 24 years!)

Ginger with Mr. and Mrs. Howell.  (Stan even went so legit he brought Mr. Howell’s teddy bear!)

The Captain isn’t happy that his wife loves me so much!  (Good friends and past clients, Kim + David!)

Many thanks to this guy and to my mom for throwing this surprise together for me!
Seriously.  They know me too well.  I got to spend the evening of my 30th on the water with some of my all time favorite people.  It was a great time.

Please note:  When on a moving boat, there is often this thing called wind.  Breezes and fire do not play well together.  My mom and C worked so hard to get all of these candles lit - and then C turned the corner and the wind took care of blowing out my 30 candles!

A gluten free cuppie for me!

I love all these people so much.

One last pirate pic.  Because I know you haven’t seen enough yet.
This is my crew.

And as promised - one last chance to get entered to win the first Not-So-Dirty 30 Giveaway that Bless Her Heart Y’all and I are hosting!

Not-So-Dirty 30 Birthday Giveaway!

June 11, 2014 by Susan 2 Comments

Guess what day it is!  No seriously, Guess.What.Day.It.Is!!
{via}

First and foremost, should I be freaked out as it appears google seems to know it’s my birthday?  I am well aware that the logo changes all the time… but is this a joke?  Or maybe just by chance?  Can someone please tell me if their google logo is also birthday cakes??  Or should I be concerned by how much the intertubes actually “know” …..
I’m going to keep today’s post short and sweet because I have a lot of gluten free cake to eat and a few mimosas calling my name this morning.
{via}
I just want to say that it’s not even 10AM and I’ve already had received
happy birthday videos from switzerland,
texts from so many of my best friends,
texts from clients and folks that I’m surprised to hear from (especially before the clock even strikes 8AM)
facebook messages up the wazoo,
a dumb and dumber reunion on the today show this morning,
a sweet card and a bar of my favorite chocolate from my pets on my desk,
and my husband even let me sleep with our ceiling fan on high speed last night!!
(Don’t tell the hubs but he could’ve just skipped over a birthday present and simply given me control over the ceiling fan.  A blissful night sleep with the crisp wind off the blades of a ceiling fan is all this girl really needs!)
{Watch the Dumb and Dumber To trailer here.}

Before I head out, there’s one more thing!  Since it’s my birthday, and since I am obsessed with giving people presents… I am teaming up with J from Bless Her Heart Y’all for a full birthday month!  We are kicking it off with a giveaway on my birthday (today, 6/11) and ending it with a giveaway on her birthday (7/11!)
It’s kinda like when you were a kid, and your big sister was having a birthday.  Your parents didn’t want you to feel left out so they would sneak you a gift too.  That’s exactly what we are doing… sharing the birthday love with you, our sweet friends.
So what’s included in this giveaway valuing approximately $85??
(A bunch of things I would love to keep for myself, that’s what!!)
Here’s what you can win:
  • Two 2 ounce bags of 2 cats & chloe loose leaf tea from my tea shoppe.  (Berry Berry! Along with one of my all-time faves, Orange Creamsicle.)  Both teas are herbal, decaf teas - and both are very good hot or iced for the summer!
  • A Tea Infuser so you can easily brew your loose leaf tea
  • A fun, oversized mug to help you fully enjoy your tea (or coffee)
  • Entertaining Napkins that say “A great friend is cheaper than therapy!”  (since J and I are BFF’s in real life, I figured these napkins were extremely appropriate!)
  • Versona Jewelry! By now y’all all know how I’m obsessed with Versona!  So of course you are going to receive some Versona jewels as your birthday present!
    • A coral and hot pink beaded necklace
    • Awesome coral and pink bangle bracelets (that I’m seriously tempted to keep)
    • Coral hoop earrings to wrap up an entire outfit
  • A fun pack of post it notes and tabs to help you dress up your notebook or calendar
  • Lastly you can have your own treat.com custom made and personalized blog notebook!  I recently checked out treat.com and created my own “2 cats and chloe” blog notebook.  I am absolutely obsessed with it.  Seriously.  I’m a marketing nerd.  To see my blog branding in real life just makes me giddy!  Not to mention, it’s the perfect size to toss into my purse.  When I have a blog idea or inspiration - I can jot it down in my very own blog notebook!  (Yup, those are my pictures on the front of the notebook below! - more to come on this later this week!)

So there ya have it friends!  There are a trillion ways (actually less that 25) that you can get yourself entered to win a fun birthday present for yourself.  You don’t have to be a blogger to win either!  You do need to be in the USA though (for shipping purposes) unless you want to pay for my plane ticket, in which case I will gladly deliver this birthday present to you.
You have until 11:55 on Monday 6/16 to get your booty entered.
#notsodirty30giveaway

a Rafflecopter giveaway

Stay tuned for the entire next month.  J and I will be bringing you a little bit of birthday celebration each and every week until we wrap this puppy up with yet another huge and awesome giveaway.
And just in case you want to celebrate with me today - my family is throwing me a party!  Check out the hashtag #suzieturns30 and join in on all the surprises and fun!
Now for the love of celebrating…
go eat some cake, wear a party hat and have a wonderful day y’all!

Five on Friday: Birthday edition!

June 6, 2014 by Susan 5 Comments

I’m super pumped to join in on the Five on Friday fun today with April {A.Liz Adventures}, Christina {North Carolina Charm}, Darci {The Good Life} and Natasha {Hello! Happiness}!  This is my first time with this linkup so thank you gals for hosting!

Next week is my big 3-0!  And since I’m an absolute birthday junkie (and I typically celebrate for at least a month!) today’s five will be birthday driven! Without further ado!

Birthday Wishes:  In the past, you would’ve never, ever caught me saying that I would want a gift card as a birthday present.  I have always felt as if they are just thoughtless gifts.  You know, the I’m-running-late-for-the-celebration-so-i-need-to-grab-and-go kind of gift.  I have always prided myself in putting thought behind the gifts I give.  So, to me, gift cards were always a tad bit of a let down.
But I was young, naive, unmarried, and making a ton of money when I thought that gift cards were lame.  Now I’m old(er), not-so-naive, married, and bringing in half the bacon I used to bring in. Currently, I’m also struggling with the urge to blow our household budget on clothes and purses and jewelry and hats that I love.  So please friends.  Gift cards FTW this year.
In case you are a family member looking for a place to buy me a gift card:
{Although, a gift card with a little thoughtful surprise would be even better!  Seriously, it really is the thought that counts for me…}

I know that there is a planned “surprise” birthday party for me next week.  You read that right.  I am publicly announcing that I am aware of a surprise shindig my husband and mom are throwing for me.  I’m a party planner.  This is just what I do.  Honestly, I find such huge joy in throwing parties, I was hoping to throw my own.  Weird right?
I know this surprise may or may not involve a scavenger hunt or laser tag.  I also know it will be something I love, so I’m thinking we won’t be laser tagging for my thirtieth.  {We all know that my front two teeth are half fake so I am extremely self conscious about rooms with black lights.  i.e. I lose every game of laser tag I play because apparently I run around smiling like a fool.  And you can see my teeth coming when they are a mere mile away.}

I really have the desire to go antiquing.  Dare I say this is also a sign that 30 is a few days away?  I am on the hunt for an antique mantle with a touch of class, southern charm and flair.  If I could, I would just go all “Grinch Who Stole Christmas” on my parents’ cottage and steal my mom’s stunning (semi-haunted) mantel.  Not that I’m a thief or anything.  I just really love their mantel.

As per any June, it’s wedding season.  And there’s no such thing as a weekend.  To kick off my actual birthday week, I am taking off on Monday.  And I’m beyond excited for my plans.
No, I’m not going to the beach.  No, I won’t be at the river either.  Switzerland to see family? Ha!  I wish.
I will be spending the day wearing orange clothes, eating orange foods, and binge watching #OITNB with one of the few local BFF’s that I have here!
An entire day of sipping mimosas, while eating oranges, orange bell peppers, carrots, cheese, orange sherbet, salmon, sweet potato fries, apricots, orange tomatoes, butternut squash, peaches and mangos while watching Orange is the New Black?  Don’t mind if I do!

(And if you have any other orange food ideas, we are open to suggestions!)

You know how I said birthday’s are a BIG DEAL to me and how I like to celebrate them for as long as my friends and family will allow me to celebrate them?  It just so happens that my birthday is 6/11 and one of my best friends’ birthday is 7/11.  Since we are both actively blogging we have decided to host a month long “Not So Dirty Thirty!” celebration on our blogs!
How? When? Where? Huh?!  I know you are just raring up for the deets!
When: June 11 - July 11, 2014
Where: 2 cats and chloe and Bless Her Heart Y’all
What: A month long combo 30th birthday celebration!  A series and two giveaways!
How: What’s a birthday without presents!?  We are kicking it off with a huge birthday giveaway and ending it with a huge birthday giveaway! (The first will go live on Wednesday 6/11)
So stay tuned next week!  The giveaways are going to be the biggest giveaway either of us have ever done.  And the best part - they will be full of things that both of us love!
Hint Hint - Homegoods and Versona items are a guarantee!  :)
Thanks for stopping by the blog today!  If you are visiting via the linkup please leave a comment below so I can go check you blog out as well!  Happy Friday friends!

For the love of my birthday and the return of #OITNB!

Hydrangeas? It’s June!

June 2, 2014 by Susan Leave a Comment

I’m no green thumb by any means.  So when plants and flowers survive under my supervision (or lack of) I am always a little shocked excited.  After a 17 hour wedding work day yesterday (which I will briefly recap tomorrow) I noticed this bloom in our backyard this afternoon, in between my two 3 hour long naps and Locked Up Abroad stints.
It’s June First and our massive hydrangea plant has started to bloom.  To me, nothing says “it’s june” like these flowers.  Growing up, every year for my birthday, my grandparents would give me a bundle of hydrangeas.  With my birthday just around the corner (it’s the big 3-0!) I know this plant will be in full bloom by June 11.  It always is.
I’m convinced it’s a birthday gift from a few of my angels in heaven.

So happy birthday month to me!  Seriously - in between a trillion weddings squeezed into the next 4 weeks - let’s celebrate!  Birthday’s are a huge deal to me.  I have plans to collaborate with a couple bloggers and businesses this month as we all party it up and I am forced leap into my thirties.
Come back tomorrow.  I’m going to open my heart up about my wedding planning business and highlight a few moments from this past weekend’s wedding in Richmond, VA.
For the love of hydrangeas!
Until next time… xxoo
